Yoga retreats

A yoga retreat is residential practice away from home, usually somewhere between a long weekend and two weeks. Unlike a teacher training there is no certification and no assessment; the schedule is lighter, typically two practices a day with the middle of the day free. Accommodation and meals are almost always included in the price.

About yoga retreats

Retreats vary more than the word suggests. Some are effectively a holiday with morning yoga, others are near-silent and tightly structured. The daily schedule is the thing to read: how many hours of practice, whether there is silence, whether afternoons are free, and whether excursions are included or extra.

Because a retreat price bundles a room, food and teaching, comparing it to a class fee is misleading. Work out the per-day cost, check whether flights and transfers are included (they usually are not), and confirm whether the room is shared before assuming a price is high.
